No. The customer installs Living Doc locally. Updates of the software can be downloaded from this web site.
Do I have to install the scanner software and presentation software on the same server?
No, they can be installed on two different servers.
I have looked at the demo. How can you find the Author of an ASP page? You can't do that by looking at the file system.
The scanner software searches the files for a number of specific key words. Many companies use a template at the top of each ASP file. If you view the source of one of the ASP files in the demo, you can see how that specific template looks. By the use of a special INI file we can very easily adapt Living Doc to scan your company's template information.
The online documentation is great, but I also want to produce printed documentation. Is that possible?
Yes. Living Doc has a menu option for creating a comprehensive report in Microsoft Word format.
Can you check in and out the source code in Living Doc like you can in Microsoft Visual Source Safe?
No, we want Living Doc to be the best documentation tool on the market. We think that supporting source code version control is not so much a documentation feature as it is a feature for a development tool.
In the comparison of the Server Edition vs. eLite you say that eLite creates a HTML Help file (instead of an ASP page/document) and you cannot compare snapshots, nor output to MS Word. However, you also say you cannot view the HTML Help file created by eLite through a web browser. I'm confused; it's HTML...why can't I view it through a browser?
The HTML Help file format is developed by Microsoft and uses the underlying technology of Internet Explorer. However,
you don't actually view the contents with Internet Explorer, but with another program. HTML Help files can only be
viewed on computers that uses Windows. Thus, it cannot be viewed on Macintosh computers.
